Getting started

  1. Install Mint Bookings from the Shopify App Store. The app home shows a short checklist.
  2. Make a product bookable: Bookable products → Add product, pick the product (its price is the price of one place, or one rental day), then set the duration, places per time slot, opening hours, date exceptions, minimum notice and how far ahead customers can book. Save.
  3. Add the calendar: click Add calendar block on the app home. The theme editor opens on your product page with the Booking calendar block; click Save. (Or Online Store → Themes → Customize → Products → Add block → Apps.) It only appears on products you made bookable.
  4. Checkout protection switches on automatically: it appears under Settings → Checkout → Checkout rules as Mint Bookings: require a booked time. Leave it on.
  5. Place a test order: open the product in your store, choose a time, check out. The booking appears in the app's Calendar.

How bookings work

  • When a customer picks a time, it's held for them (15 minutes by default, set in Settings) so nobody else can take it while they check out. The time is written on the cart line as Booking start and Booking end, which also appear in Shopify's order confirmation.
  • When the order is created it becomes a booking. If checkout took longer than the hold and someone else took the last place meanwhile, the order is listed on the app home as needs a time instead of being double-booked: give it another time or cancel and refund.
  • Orders created outside the calendar (draft orders, POS) that include a bookable product also appear as needing a time.
  • Cancelled orders free their places automatically; refunding some places of a class frees those places; fully refunded bookings are cancelled.
  • Times follow each product's time zone, including daylight-saving changes: a start time that doesn't exist that night is skipped, and one that happens twice is offered once.
  • Rentals (Pro): customers pick a first day and a number of days; the calendar sets the cart quantity to the number of days, so set the product price per day.
  • Staff and resources (Pro): add people or rooms with their own hours, then choose them on a product. A time is offered while one of them is free, and a person booked for one service isn't offered for another at the same time.

Common questions

The calendar doesn't appear. Check that the product is bookable (Bookable products shows Bookable) and that the Booking calendar block is added to the product template your product uses, and saved.

Checkout says “Choose a date and time”. The product was added to the cart without picking a time (for example with a quick-add button on a collection page). Remove it from the cart and add it from the product page after choosing a time.

Customers don't get emails. Booking emails are part of Pro and are sent when the order is paid. Settings shows whether sending is available; while it isn't, emails are queued rather than dropped. Shopify's own order confirmation always includes the booked time.

I changed the app proxy URL. The calendar talks to /apps/mint-bookings. If you changed that path under Apps → Mint Bookings → App proxy, change it back.

Billing

Free includes 1 bookable product and up to 30 bookings a month with the calendar, holds, checkout protection and the admin calendar. Pro is billed through Shopify at $9.99/month after a 7-day free trial and adds unlimited products and bookings, rentals, staff and resources, customer emails and the calendar feed. Cancel anytime from the app's Plans page or by uninstalling.

Privacy

See our privacy policy and security policy. In short: bookings are stored with Shopify IDs; names and emails are shown to you from Shopify and used for booking emails, not stored by us.
